Abstract:
Transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS) specializes to explore new methods that can efficiently and painlessly transmit better molecules in therapeutic quantity to overcome the difficulties allied with oral route, namely poor bioavailability due to first pass metabolism and receptiveness to produce rapid blood level. Transdermal drug delivery gets improved the therapeutic effectiveness and security of drugs by more site-specific way but spatial and temporal placement within body is necessary to reduce both the size and number of doses essential to achieve the objective of systemic medication through topical application to the intact skin surface. Transdermal patches deliver the drugs for systemic effects at a predetermined and controlled rate. Through a diffusion process, the drug enters the bloodstream directly through the skin. The success of all the TDDS depends on the skill of the drug to permeate skin in sufficient quantities to achieve its desired therapeutic effect.
This review discusses the details mechanism of TDDS including its basic components as well as the permeable enhancers. It also provides the limitations and benefits of the Transdermal Drug Delivery System. The recent innovations, nanocarriers and Future prospects of TDDS is also discussed in this review.
